On Saturday my friends and I went ice skating for someone's birthday and then we ate at IHOP. My friend Nathan was bored, so he decided to try out some physics at the table. he fiddled with a spoon and a fork, two toothpicks, and a salt shaker then WAHLAH!! it balanced on each other!! In the first picture, he's concentrating. The second picture he's like "woaaaaah" the third picture shows his magical physics skill. in the last picture, nathan's like, "now see here, we have the center of gravity." then china, the girl in the green, is like "waaah?" and wes on the left is like "woaaah nate is a god.." the spoon and fork was able to balance because weight of the ends of the utencils balanced out the part that you eat with. the ends of the utencils extend past the balancing point and is a bit lower than where the toothpicks meet. nathan's trick is similar to the balancing bird that we previously studied.
we showed the waiter, and he brought his waiter friend over to check it out. we later saw them attempting this magical physics feat in the back kitchen counter. they failed horribly.
bottom line: kalaheo kids learn cool things at school.
